My husband does more than I think

Oh my goodness.  Until tonight, I didn't realize how much my husband actually does.  All of this time I just thought that he existed to take out the trash and make my house a little dirtier.

Along those lines, I have to admit that I sometimes rail on him for not working as hard as I do around the home.  To be fair to me, that is true.  Although he is a wonderful and hands-on father, he really doesn't do as much as I do around the home.  Especially when it comes to waking up with the Moose.  He has done it once.  It was my Valentine's Day gift.  He still talks about it.

Tonight that all changed.  My level of appreciation for him went way up.  Like skyrocketed.  I am very fortunate that my husband does not travel, so he is always here to help with the day to day.  This week though, he has a business trip.  When he told me, I kind of shrugged it off and my only thought about it was that I wish I could go with him and do some shopping.  A girl has gotta have her priorities, right?

As I was putting the Moose to sleep tonight though, I had some more time to think, which lead to a major panic attack.

* What will I do if I can't get her to sleep?  Hubbers goes upstairs and comforts her if she wakes up.  If I go up, she cries.  I guess I could keep her up with me, but that will cause me to lose both my patience and sanity.

* Who will cook her breakfast in the morning?  During the week, she likes over easy eggs and I only make scrambled.

* How in the hell am I going to shower in the morning if he isn't here to watch her??  I can wake up early and do it before she gets up.  With my luck though, she will also wake up early.  Plus, I hate waking up early.

* Who will I talk to when I come home from work?  I wish I had family in town.  They would have me over for dinner.  Note to self: DVR some Tabatha so that I don't die of boredom.

* How on God's green Earth am I am going to survive this business trip?!?  Why is my life so hard?  #firstworldproblems

It was after that train wreck of thoughts that I realized, "wow.  If I am going to miss him that much, he must do more around the house than I previously thought."  Crap.  I should be more grateful and less of a bitch.

That realization made me realize three MORE things:
1. Single moms are freakin' amazing.  FREAKIN' AMAZING.
2. I would be a shi$$y single mom.
3. I am a wuss because he is only going away for one day.  Yup.  All of that over one day.

So, there it is.  I said it, Husbandito, so I hope you are reading this.  You are very helpful around the house and this impending trip is making me realize it.  So, thank you.  And PLEASE do not ever go away again.

Moose and DaDa having fun on the beach.

    1. Lol, I know! One year my Grandma gave my Grandpa a really sappy Birthday card and he carried it around with him in is pocket everyday. If my Grandma was giving him a hard time, he would pull it out and read it to her. It drove her nuts! I have a feeling that same thing could happen to me with this post. :)

  2. Cute. As much as I love alone time when The Guy goes away, I do always realize when he's gone just how much he does!

    1. Prior to having the Moose, I also enjoyed my alone time when my husband traveled. The best part is that I would eat what I wanted for dinner, which was always boxed Mac 'n Cheese (he won't eat it). With a toddler though, it just isn't as much fun. By the time she goes to bed, I am too tired to enjoy myself!

Thank you SO much for reading and commenting! :)

  3. Oh girl. I took our babies on a week trip to visit my sister, and I thought I was going to lose my mind without my husband, and that was with her there to help me out! Single parents deserve medals, I swear!

    1. Couldn't agree more! I have no idea how they do it everyday.

Good for you doing it for a week though. I can't imagine! When my husband travels for more than a few days, I have my parents come stay with me. I am a wuss. ;)

  5. Oh, I miss my husband being home with me all the time big time! He definitely did a lot around the house and with the kids when he worked from home. Now he works outside the home and is gone 12-18 hours a day, and I literally feel like a single mother of three kids. Then I remind myself if I was single, I'd also have to make a full time income too. Right now, I make a part-time income and that wouldn't support me and the three kids. I was the single mother of one child for several years, and it was very draining for sure. My hat does go off to single mothers too!

I'm sure your husband will appreciate reading this post too.

    1. Wow. Good for you for holding it all together while he is working. That has got to be SO hard. I really admire your good attitude about it. While you are right about his income supporting you guys, it is still really difficult to be the one at home with kids.

My husband definitely does appreciate the post...let's just hope it doesn't go to his head. ;)

  6. Reality checks are a good thing! It's nice that you two appreciate each other. (Don't sell yourself short, either: you're a woman -- you can do ANYTHING!)

    1. Thank you! You are right that women / Moms can do anything. I think that Moms are the most amazing people in the entire world. Just getting by with the day to day can be a challenge.

Thank you so much for stopping by and for the nice comment! :)

  8. when my husband travels I freak out. he gets upset that I don't appreciate him but the point is I do appreciate him - when he goes away I know I have to do all the things he does!

    1. Sounds just like my house! My husband is always complaining that I don't appreciate all that he does. Until he goes away, I really don't. Maybe the husbands/Daddies of the world don't actually have business trips. They just go away to some resort to sit around together and laugh at all of us Mommies who are kicking ourselves for downplaying how much they actually do. ;)

  9. Ah! There always seems to be that wake-up call moment. We don't have children yet but my hubby's in the Army. Gone last year for 8 months, gone 2 weeks this past June and he will be gone for all of October. When his dishes have piled up next to the sink or his dirty clothes are all scattered on the floor I try to remember how much it sucks when he is gone. I'd rather have him around making messes. ;) Thanks for sharing! 10. I loved the bit about the bins :-)

I'm a single mum and I was terrified but to be honest you just get used to it and you get by because you have to. And some things are just easier - you can go to bed when baby goes to bed without anyone complaining :-)

  11. When my hubs is out of town or even just working late, I become very aware of how much it is that he does!

    1. For sure! I dread the working late days as much as the out of town days! Maybe our husbands just work late from time to time to remind us of how useful they actually are. :)

      Thanks for reading!

  12. That is so true. We really don't see all the little things (that really add up) that they do. My husband goes on fishing trips with his brother. The entire week I'm biting my nails because I know that I'm going to have be the mom and the dad. And you're right, single mom's are awesome.

    1. An entire week! Good for you. I am sure that you exhausted by the end of it. My husband went away for a week in March, but I am a wimp and I had my parents come into town to help.
